The EU could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US on five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans targeted figures that were central to campaigns to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
