Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
